1970 Morris Mini Cooper S (MK2)

This one's a bit of a long story. Advertised on Ebay Australia in late 2018, it's been sitting there for a while with a buy it now price of $10,000.00. 

The story goes as follows - (wording taken from the original advertisement which was effectively two cars being sold, a re shell and an original replacement shell):

This is a Morris Cooper S Mk2 project that I was looking to complete (maybe just start) however family and other priorities have meant that this will just sit around, for too long, so it can go to a new home.

1. Mk2 Morris Cooper S ‘factory’ replacement shell.
2. Mk2 Morris Cooper S donor car -running gear and fit out.

Comes with additional Mk2 parts including Mk2 (black) seats (front and back with side cards), original coil, 8TR reg, Mk 2 leads and Lucas lamps and tail lamp assembles.

**I understand it is just prior to Xmas so pickup does not have to be done straight away – only when it suits the buyer – happy to help out. Deposit (30%) needs to be completed however within 2 days of auction ending.**

(The clubman seats currently in the car do not come with this sale).

1. Mk2 Morris Cooper S shell.

This is a factory replacement shell which were provided (back in the 70’s) from the factory for rebuilds of damaged/written off cars.

It has the 2/06 stamping on the firewall and also a PA 021 stamping which, after many discussions, seems to be a ‘Parts and Accessories’ number. So, it’s most likely a fairly rare shell given most shells probably were ‘re-stamped’ and the current owners would never know.

The shell has been stored for 20+ years. It’s history before that is lost. Has been used at some stage as you can see in the photos and has also been used as a spray paint bench?

It has surface rust as the photos (looks worse than it is) show but the body is overall very sound. Only the battery box needs replacing. The boot floor may need replacing or at least a patch. Comes with bonnet, boot lid and both doors. Front and rear glass is also part of the package.

The shell has all the Mk2 identifiers, spot welded ‘J’ brackets / diagonal brace / fuel breather clips / flare supports, breather hole, flattened panel for oil cooler and also the different offset RHS hole for the fuel tank. Many other bits of info can be supplied.

Note: It has no stampings on the radiator support cowling. Even when viewed from underneath there is no evidence of any stamping.

2. Donor Mk2 car

I purchased this car 4 months after the initial Ebay sale fell through a few years back.

The car was re-shelled using YG2S4 2517 as the original car was written off on the highway just out of Hawks Nest NSW in the 80’s. Its subsequent life around the salt water has made the current Deluxe? shell completely useless.

It has all the Mk2 running gear from the original car including motor and gearbox. Brakes / booster / wiper motor all look like they came for the original Mk2 S. I have all the photos and can forward to any interested parties.

Now it also has the original ID Plate. Please, please many people are aware that you cannot re-register this car with the old plate ID as it’s a re-shell. But the plate is a good ‘historical’ reference.
