1964 Studebaker Daytona Convertible
Vehicle details
Nice example advertised on craigslist in November 2021. One of fewer than 700 built, here's the story that we found on craigslist below - the car was also advertised on a new auction site at the following link: https://www.clasiq.com/auction/1964-studebaker-2-door-convertible/
Here's the wording from the original ad:
Our handsome little Studebaker was re-painted and refreshed by a previous owner sometime around 1991. Shortly after the re-spray and general clean up was done, the car was parked in a large commercial garage. It remained there, covered in boxes until our current owner literally spent 3 hours to unstack the boxes and stuff that covered the car in 2016. He turned the key , started it up and drove away with it. Although the car had been repainted in the beautiful crimson red you see here, it was dirty. Really dirty. Our owner has done very little to the car mechanically, but he has sure done a lot of cleaning. polishing, and showering TLC on the All-American beauty from South Bend. As it is part of a larger collection, it has not been driven more than 100 miles in 5 years.
The gleaming red paint of this Daytona convertible is the result of two things - a very well done respray in 1991 and 2016. Our owner also did a yeoman’s job of refreshing the convertible top and installed a new electric pump to power the mechanism. The top was new and installed in 1991 when the paint job took place. It is bright white and a perfect compliment to the crimson red and tastefully done side trim. All chrome and brightwork is in excellent condition. Our Lemon Squad inspectors found very straight undamaged body panels with few scratches too small to mention. Original hubcaps in excellent condition - like the everything else. Hood ornament, badging and glass- all in excellent condition- unmolested, clean and in great shape.
One might wonder if the front and rear seats are new. Our owner confirms that they do look great, and they are the original seats. The front is a split bench covered in fabric and the rear is a solid matching bench seat. Did we mentioned that he cleaned and cleaned some more? One can see that by noticing the impeccable condition of the interior. Seats and belts look perfect. Door panels too. All the window cranks and locks work as they should. The dash, wheel, gauges all look really clean, shiny and in great condition. Everything inside works as it should. Dash looks great – one can still see the grain in the vinyl inside. Very clean carpets with mats and an AM radio finish things off.
The Studebaker 259 Cubic inch V-8 powers this little funmobile. It pushes 180 HP through the Studebaker’s automatic transmission, the Power Shift. The engine comes with the original 2 Stromberg carburetors. They are all tuned and working fine. The engine and compartment components are all original including the air cleaner and valve covers. Fluids are all topped off and updated hoses are in place. The engine runs strong and the transmission shifts smoothly. The odometer reads 71,740 and is believed to be the original miles. The steering proved responsive in the test drive as did the brakes. The car also sports a tight, responsive suspension that is a joy to drive with that V-8 up front. Overall mechanical condition of the car is great all around.
