A few of these have come out of the woodwork recently - like most sellers, I suppose people are making the most of the exceptional prices they can achieve, while they can. Not sure how long these prices will last, but people seem to want over $40K for one of these now - something considered outrageous just a few years ago.. These are special cars - fitted with the same performance engine as the GT, but in a lighter "falcon" package - rather than the GT which was based on the luxury Fairmont Ghia line..

This particular example came up on Lloyds auctions. Bids were only at $5,500, but there were 16 days to run, and no douby this one will soar despite not being the lowest mileage example out there.. See the original advertisement here, which we spotted in February 2022.

A great description was provided by Lloyds for this one: an extract of which we've pasted below from the link above:

"This is your opportunity to purchase one of the most sought after and rare Ford Falcons ever built. The Ford Falcon ED XR8 Sprint 5L high performance V8 in the rarest colour built, Black Pearl. Originally a dealer principal vehicle at Stillwell Ford, the Sprint was purchased new at the end of its short tenure. Being an ex dealer principal car, it is fully optioned with factory sunroof, cruise control and the adaptive shift 4 speed automatic; these are on top of the standard sprint features such as the high performance heads and exhaust headers.
With a meticulously recorded history, previous owners are recorded along with all service items and most receipts over the life of the vehicle. All maintenance is up to date including new brake rotors and pads recently. To ensure the Sprint presents as best as possible, it has undergone a high quality closed door respray, with the painter noting zero rust damage whatsoever. The Sprint only has one aftermarket piece fitted, a 2.5" exhaust system coupled with high flow catalytic converters.
The car still carries all its VIN tags on every panel including the rare tag on the strut tower as well as the ID tag on the radiator and rocker covers. The original feel is carried out throughout the vehicle with a completely original engine bay, interior, wheels, springs and shocks. Even the original cassette player head unit is in listing working condition.
The original spare tyre, rim and jack are still present along with the factory fresh boot carpet; even the extremely rare Tickford wheel brace is present.
This Sprint is a true collectors vehicle and opportunities to own are car like this are becoming scarce. It is in pristine condition and will impress the fussiest of collectors

After the 200kW 25th Anniversary EB GT of 1993, Ford decided to use the same 5.0l GT40 roller Windsor engine (albeit detuned to 195kW) for a limited run of XR8’s known as the Sprint to tackle the new HSV Clubsport. Only 356 (200 Au/156 NZ) were built with only 184 with the 5 speed manual transmission the rest were auto. The Sprint was designed by Ford Lot 6 skunkworks supremo Howard Marsden as the ultimate sleeper/tourer that was actually 70kg lighter than the GT, at 1579kg. This example is finished in black over the signature Sprint Leather and Cloth combo trim."
