1989 Nissan Skyline R31 Silhouette GTS2 (SVD)
Vehicle details
This car was advertised on Gumtree in September 2016, with an asking price of $20,000 AUD. This is the highest price we've seen to date for an SVD GTS 1 or 2. This is believed to be number 034 of 200 and is fitted with a manual transmission (less common than on the GTS1). At the time of sale, the seller made very few comments about the car.
Unfortunately, we are only able to assume this car is number 34 of the 200 from the registration. The vehicle otherwise certainly appears to be a genuine GTS2 based on the images in the advertisement, which aren't great)..
The GTS2 was a follow up to the GTS1 of 1988, produced by Nissan's Special Vehicles Division, who built these cars at the same time that the Skyline was competing in the Australia Touring Car Championship. The GTS2 had the following features:
- LSD,
- 6 spoke 16" white powder coated mags.
- rear spoiler with stop lamp.
- sports interior.
- 97 of these vehicles were blessed with a manual transmission, while the remaining 103 received an automatic transmission.
- Stage 3 camshaft, original ECU piggy backed to run ignition timing for camshaft, ported exhaust ports, extractors, 2.5' exhaust, oil cooler and auxiliary auto transmission cooler. GTS2 camshaft is similar to AVO stage 3 camshaft. It has a piggyback to the ECU to modify injection pulse width/timing.
- Porting - increase flow at low valve lift figures. In the GTS2 it is only really seen at about 6000 rpm (not achieved with regular driving). Must match valve cutting and flow to be effective. GTS2 apparently only has the exhaust ported.
We run both a Skyline R31 GTS1 Register and a Skyline R31 GTS2 register. If you own a GTS1 or GTS2, please contact us or just sign up quickly and add your car to Classic Register.
