1980 Ford Escort MK2 RS2000 Coupe

Rare RS2000 done up to UK rally spec. The seller made the following comments when this car was advertised for sale on Gumtree Australia in November 2016:

7/79 genuine Escort RS2000 coupe uniquely presented as "X Pack" with factory 3 1/2" box flares running the full length of each guard, an expensive option on RS2000s and other Fords in the UK, copied off the Zakspeed racing cars, but never offered on our local models. This car turns heads and stops traffic! Filling those cavernous wheel arches are genuine imported Minilite 15 x 8 alloys shod with 225/50/15s, giving the car considerable presence. Running gear is stock RS2000 2 litre 4 speed manual and HD diff, extractors and 2 inch exhaust. All standard correct RS front end suspension, diff, etc. Keep the standard setup or go nuts with a mountain 2.3 Pinto, Cosworth, Zetec, Duratec or a smorgasboard of factory hot up options. It already has the looks for it!

Has been set up to look like English RS with black out taillight panel, repositioned decals, and English style mirror (Aussie ones included too), original yellow was the sickly Pine'n'Lime which really did nothing for it, so we zizzed it up with the English RS2000 hue of Signal Yellow, and in the sun it really pops. Bodywork is excellent, I can't find any rust or damage.

Interior is really really tidy original Scheel front in the original beta cloth trim, rear seat is unmarked, pretty good door trims (by Escort standards)(fronts have speaker holes), good dash pad, good cluster, great original steering wheel & console, good carpet. Seriously shortened gear stick, but correct short throw shifter, bush and knob included.

The car has been sitting in dry storage since being painted around 12 years ago and has not been started in that time. Was running fine in 2004 however!

Do the sums, it would cost a MOTZA to build this car today. Rust free 2 door R$2000 body? $25K +, XPack kit + fitting + painting $5K? Genuine Minilites and tyres? $3K Scheels? $4 - $5K Running gear?? POA! Seriously, you will own this car for not a lot more than a comparable condition stock RS2000 coupe and get lots more look
