This is a particularly rare 998LS. Like the Nugget Gold 998 LS and the Green 998 LS, this one is believed to be one of 15 produced in this colour, to test the market prior to the launch of the 1275LS later in 1978. The Hi Ho Silver, and Nugget Gold colours obviously did well in the showroom, with those colours being selected for the final 1275LS. Other example of the green and gold mini 998 LS's can be seen by searching classicregister.com.

This car, being a 1978 model, has the chassis designation XNFAB, and unlike its 1977 counterparts, does not specify Mini LS on the plate. The car seems to be in original condition, with some rust in the roof and other normal areas. The owner confirmed that this car has been stored for around 15 years, and is now on Ebay, in November 2014.

The seller notes that the car is mostly complete, in particular, includes:

  • ROH Contessa alloy wheels
  • Marchal driving lights
  • Original Halogen headlights
  • Original radio/cassette and speakers
  • All original labels around the engine bay
  • All original trim pieces and badging (barring boot badging as mentioned above)

The Leyland centre caps have fallen off the wheels, but these can be purchased in the UK quite cheaply.

A comprehensive identification guide for the 998LS can be found here: http://classicregister.com/content/how-identify-1977-1978-leyland-mini-998-ls
