1967 BMW 2000 CA Coupe
Vehicle details
There's a lot of work to be done, and parts probably wouldn't be cheap, but what a great opportunity this is to get a couple of rare BMW coupes, of which there are very few in markets outside of Europe. This pair of cars (one complete, and one stripped shell) are offered here on Ebay USA asking $9,800 (USD) for the pair. The seller notes that they are both 2000 CS coupes, however, the chassis number provided relates to the 'CA' coupe (the automatic version of the base model 'C' coupe), of which there were only 3,249 cars produced. The complete car does appear to have an auto shifter (and single carby) confirming it is the CA model.
These coupes were built by Karmann coach-builders for BMW from 1965 through to 1969, superseding the Bertone-bodied 3200 CS coupe as the flagship model. These coupes were based on BMWs 'New Class' platform, and used a 2.0L 4-cylinder engine, with a 4-speed manual transmission standard. The 3-speed auto in the C coupe was an optional extra, and not available as an option on the CS model. The 2.0L in stock form produced 100hp, with the twin-carb CS models producing 120hp. not bad for a lightweight coupe of the 1960s.
In Europe there are a few more of these around, but if you want to hit the ground running with a big project in the US, this is a good opportunity. Assuming these were in fact CS models, the price is probably not far off reasonable, however, considering we believe them to be base model coupes, we'd expect the seller to be willing to come down a little with the price.
