1972 Jensen Interceptor MK3
Vehicle details
This 1972 build Interceptor looks to be a complete and relatively original car, but has unfortunately suffered the effects of the weather after supposedly being found in a Californian backyard. See it here on Kurt Tanner Motor Cars in the USA, asking $15,750 (USD). Although there's a lot of work in bringing it back to its former glory, we don't consider this a bad price for what seems to be such an original car, and in our opinion the Interceptor remains one of the most under-valued classics worldwide.
Being a series 3 car of 1972, this example was factory fitted with the 440 c.i. V-8 producing 280hp, which was de-tuned in comparison to the 440 c.i. offered in 1971 models. The seller notes the original paint colour was a blue metallic (At some stage re-painted burgundy), but retains what's left of its original navy blue interior trim. Showing 35,916 miles, it's difficult to know whether this is genuine, but could be possible assuming the car was in fact off the road for at least 25 years, as claimed by the seller. The car doesn't run, but the engine reportedly turns and the seller has suggested a new fuel pump and a tune up would likely be all that is necessary to get the motor turning over smoothly - having successfully run the engine a few years ago.
Although there is evidence of some rust and bubbling under the paint, being a Californian car has preserved much of what would otherwise have disappeared. The seller notes that the body on this car appears very straight and extremely solid, save for some bubbling along the front of the hood, and a few miscellaneous small bubbles elsewhere. The panel fit on the car is described as excellent with nice fitting doors and hatch lid. The hood hinges have frozen and have pulled away from the hood mounts, so the hood currently remains loose. The rocker panels, fenders and doors appear solid. The original dark blue leather trim has deteriorated in the California sun, and would certainly require a full re-trim, but everything is original spec and ready for a restoration. The car's original Triplex glass is also in good condition.
