1929 Austin Seven Chummy (tourer / convertible)
Vehicle details
The Austin 7s have a huge global following, and are a manageable size if you're looking for a vintage project. This one is currently advertised on Ebay Australia, with bids still below $5,000. We've seen running examples sell in the high teens over the last few years, so the price so far is fairly reasonable. The seller states that they are selling the car due to having too many projects, and that the previous owner had done some bodywork to the car, including the door frames, new seat tubs, engine manifold and various parts.
Quite a number of years ago, the complete rolling chassis had apparently been restored, along with the running gear. The seller is quite honest in noting that this information is only hearsay, and that anyone purchasing would likely need to look closely at whether work has been properly done, or if extra work is needed. The engine turns, but is tight to turn over, and the seller had removed the head and checked the bores to check why, but those items don't appear to be causing the problem, so perhaps there's an issue with the crank or bearings. The sump was also removed and the big ends looked ok, so it's unclear why this is the case. Unfortunately, this would have to be looked at to get the car running - but everything is there in place.
With the sale come boxes of fittings and various body repair sections. A great starting point for a chummy project. See the other Austin 7s we have here on Classic Register.
