1989 Mercedes W201 190E Tommy Kaira M19

Enhanced by renowned tuners Tommykaira, this 190E was recently advertised at $17,900 (USD), listed here on Mendel's Garage. Despite their reputation for modifying Japanese domestic market cars, TommyKaira's first couple of vehicles were in fact German. The quality of the Benz vehicles in the 80s meant they were exceptionally popular in Japan, and TommyKaira saw an opportunity to provide a home tuned sporting model starting with the 2.0l powerplant. Precise production numbers of these 2.0l vehicles is uknown, but only a handful are believed to have been produced according to several forums, each being fitted with a unique build plate. We understand that the build plate should match the chassis number, but in this case it appears someone at TommyKaira may have made a slight stamping error on the plate when you read the end of the chassis number carefully.

As with most Tommykaira cars, a unique bodykit was fitted, and the trademark stripe applied down the side of the vehicle, along with a red TommyKaira decal placed on the front hood (missing on this particular car). New BBS RS wheels, and M19 badging were also applied in an effort to distinguish the car from the standard 190E. Few major changes are evident inside the car, with only the simple addition of the TommyKaira steering wheel.

Mechanically, the 2.0l engine was worked with a ported head, higher compression (10.0:1), a revised camshaft, and a Toda Racing stainless steel exhaust manifold. This work increased the power of the 2.0l engine to around 153hp. The engine valve cover was also painted green to distinguish the motor. In the handling department, Koni sports suspension was installed, providing a lower stance and harder ride.
