This is the first Camaro Z28 we've written about on Classic Register, and it's currently advertised on Ebay USA with just over a day remaining (and a buy-it-now price of $10,800 USD). The 1979 Camaro was a major sales success for Chevrolet, and the Z28 model of 1979 saw nearly 85,000 units built in addition to the other Camaro models in the range. The styling of the second generation Camaro remains popular today, and there are many opportunities out there to get one of these cars at a reasonable price, particularly those from the late 1970s. The cars have an enormous international following, which is further buoyed by the continued production and success of the latest Camaro model, and we think this should make these character-filled older vehicles an enjoyable investment in the long term.

The Z28 badged vehicles were re-introduced to the Camaro range in 1977 after several years of absence. The model was aimed more toward track use than others in the Camaro range, and several racing championships were entered into with the Z28 by Chevrolet. The Z28 was fitted with a 350CI engine with a four-barrel quadrajet carburetor, and had the option of a Borg-Warner T-10 4-speed manual or 3-speed auto box. By the time 1979 rolled around, engines were well under 200 horsepower, with the 350CI engine having endured de-tuning and strangulation to meet ever more stringent emission regulations.

This particular car is said to be a full numbers matching example, with factory A/C, power steering, and has the popular Hurst shifter modification. We note that the engine code is the correct "L" in the chassis number - being the 350CI unit, however, we think the seller may have made an error with the fourth digit of the chassis number, which we presume would have been "7" rather than "8". No rust has been noted, and overall it seems like a very clean example. It does have some competition, and we've spotted several Z28s currently online in comparable condition at varying prices. Here's a link to some examples.
