1985 BMW 6 Series E24 M6 / M635 CSI Coupe
Vehicle details
These early "M" Cars are becoming increasingly difficult to find and are highly collectable.
Only 524 RHD M635CSi were ever built, and this is number 90 of the 524. Built in March 1985 and in the very unique colour "Achtgrun", the car was originally delivered to the UK. It was then sold to New Zealand in 1995 with 125,000 miles on the clock. Paperwork suggests that the car had 5 owners in New Zealand from 1995 to 2017, when we bought the car. The clocks currently show 180,000 miles but the motor was completely rebuilt in 2009.
The car presents well and has had a repaint in its original colour. There is no rust in the floors or sills and the bodywork is in very good shape. The standard of paintwork is very good with slight evidence of "orange-peel" on some panels. The depth of colour is good and the shine great. All in all, we would rate the paint to be 7.5 out of 10. Considering this was performed around 1999 - some 18 years ago, the car still looks remarkably good! Since then, new door rubbers and front and rear screen rubbers have been fitted along with new sunroof seals etc.
Most of the recent maintenance ($16k) was performed by Coombes Johnson BMW in Hamilton NZ. They also provided us with a pre-sale inspection report before we bought the vehicle and have given the car a clean bill of health. The previous owner has spent a lot of time and money getting the car to the condition it is today. Receipts show that many new parts were ordered from BMW and a major rebuild of the air-conditioning system in 2014 is accompanied by a $2,800 invoice!
The interior of the car is very neat. The Napa leather and piping on the drivers seat bolster has recently been replaced due to wear, and all of the seats and centre rear console have benefitted from a scrub down and leather repaint. The carpets are in very good shape as are the door cards. Overall the interior is very good. There are two cracks in the dash top, unfortunately.
All the glass and trim in and on the car are in exceptional condition. Receipts show that most of this has been replaced over the years. The car is fitted with a custom big bore exhaust system, that can be replaced with a stock exhaust prior to sale, if the new owner would prefer this. The car runs and drives well, and feels pretty taut on the road. The original wheels were replaced with 16" BBS style wheels from an E39, and they give the car a more aggressive look and stance. New Bridgestone RE003's have been fitted to the front wheels, while the back still sport some RE002's which are still in good shape and have the same tread pattern.
