While we were adding the red ST205 GT-Four to the register, we spotted this yellow one also for sale, asking $17,000 less, but with half the mileage. Again, this is an import from Japan (not one of the rare Australian homologation cars), but nonetheless a true GT-Four - just a smaller spoiler :).. Looks in OK condition, and was advertised as registered, asking $40,000 AUD at the time (December 2021) - see the original gumtree ad here. In the original advertisement, the seller made the following...

Toyota
Although it was the least successful in the WRC (thanks to getting itself banned), it is my favourite GT-Gour model.. Something about the muscular styling has always done it for me, and I still have the Tamiya Castrol WRC radio control version from when I was a kid. These are a great modern classic which it seems are now on the allowed import list as a 30+ year old car, and are streaming in (but demanding hefty prices). This ST205 was spotted on gumtree Australia, located in WA, asking $57,000...

Mazda
Manufactured by Mazda in Japan, this 2 door Hardtop GT Rotary was offered for sale on Grays Auctions online, and sold for $23,109 in December 2021. Extremely rare in Australia, we commonly see the turbo 929 coupe (which sold quite strongly here in the 1980s when new), but rarely do these Rotary engined Cosmo versions of the HB turn up. Unsurprisingly, these are becoming increasingly desirable like most of Mazda's old rotary cars. Check out the original listing here.

This Australian C140 (we presume it was Aus delivered but don't know for sure) was advertised on Gumtree.com.au in December 2021, with 171,000km on the clock and asking $26,500 AUD. Prices seem to be on the rise, and rightly so.. This has been a much anticipated modern classic in my opinion, and there are currently several cars in the $20,000 and above price point (that previously would be in the mid teens). Not many of these around though. The seller notes that everything works and there are no...

Mercedes
I saw this one for sale a few years back, at around 16K, and understandably values have gone up since then for these classic coupes. This particular car is not only rare due to it being a 140 series coupe, but it's also a rare early series car, badged as a 500 SEC (carrying the badging over from the previous series C126). There would only be a handful of these in the country. The seller noted a fair few issues with the car that need addressing at the time of sale, and it was asking $23,999 in...

Opel
We've got a few VP Senators on the register now - this one is build number 064 and was advertised on Grays Auctions in December 2021 - It had sold at the time we spotted it, but not sure how much for. Here's the link to the original advertisement. Looks to be in excellent condition - fairly high Ks for a collector HSV but nothing abnormal for a car of this age. The HSVs of the 90s have been taking off - especially during the last couple of Covid years. These early HSV products will surely have a...

99 model LS400, spotted on Ebay USA in December 2021, asking $3,999 USD, buy it now, with 167,000 miles on the clock. Looks in OK condition, and was apparently a california car all its life. These later model cars are my favourite, with a nice conservative facelift that make them look so similar to the W126 / W140 Mercedes - but you know you're getting a much simpler vehicle. Certainly a modern classic. See the original advertisement here for further information.

Another late model LS400, spotted on Ebay USA in December 2021, with a starting bid at just over $4,000. The seller have plenty of details about this example, a summary of which has been pasted below. Check out the original advertisement here. "1999 Lexus LS400 4 door full-size sedan – 4.0 liter 1UZ-FE V8 – 5 speed automatic A650E transmission – Silver exterior with grey cloth, leather and vinyl interior with California walnut wood trim – 171,077 miles at time of posting Features: – ABS – Power...

Lexus
Lovely late model LS400 spotted on Ebay USA, asking $7,995 in December 2021. This one is finished in Mystic Gold Metallic, with a beige interior trim, and has 184,000 miles on the clock - fairly low for a LS400. This is the last of the legendary LS400 series cars which were originally introduced in 1989, and had various upgrades throughout the 90s, with this car being the final model (replaced thereafter by the LS430). Check out the original advertisement here.

Lexus
Another classic LS400 on the register - this one with 300,000km and a full service history. This example was advertised in Victoria (Australia) on Gumtree.com.au in December 2021, asking $7,250. Between 5 - 10k seems to be about the market price for a clean LS400 with average Ks. See the original advertisement here. The seller made the following comments in the original ad: "The Car is in great condition for its age as the pictures will demonstrate all electrics work and paint is fantastic it’s...

Lexus
Here's a classic Series 1 LS400 from 1990 - spotted on Gumtree Australia in December 2021, asking $12,000 AUD. Known to go for a million Ks, this one has plenty of life left despite being over 30 years old. They competed against the S Class Mercedes, but the Lexus was a far simpler car - which helped it cement the brands reputation for reliability and quality. These look great in the original burgundy paint. See the original advertisement for this car here. At the time this car was advertised...

Lexus
This was the last iteration of the LS400 - Lexus' flagship model and the model that really established the brand's reputation for exceptional quality. These were particularly popular in the USA, competing directly with the S-class. These later facelifted iterations of the first series car (which ran from the early 90s) are relatively rare, and it's pleasant to see them in great condition over 20 years on. They certainly have a following and hold a bit of value in people's minds. I love the...
